The "Wasteless User Adoption Plan" is a project by Liya and Ciana, known as Eco Duo, two ninth graders from New York City passionate about STEM and environmental sustainability. Their app, Wasteless, helps reduce food waste by tracking grocery purchases, alerting users of upcoming expiration dates, and suggesting recipes to utilize ingredients.
To promote user adoption, they conducted a survey on social media to gauge interest and used feedback from friends, family, and survey respondents to refine prototypes. About 20 people have tested the app so far, with generally positive feedback and suggestions for improvements like motivational features, AI-generated grocery lists, and automatic orders through Instacart.
To expand their user base, they plan to enhance app capabilities and promote it in schools, leveraging social media, word of mouth, and features encouraging user engagement, such as streaks and competitions. Their long-term goal is to raise awareness about food waste through Wasteless.
This project was a Semifinalist in the national Technovation Girls competition 2024.
