I explore the question of whether I am the same person as my ten-year-old self. I argue that I am, but not because I haven’t changed—I clearly have. Instead, I define sameness as sharing an essential trait, which for me is living a continuous "person-life." I explain that while my body, personality, and experiences have evolved, the continuity of my life’s timeline connects all stages of who I am.
I build my argument using philosophical concepts like mereology, the study of parts and wholes, to explain how different versions of me across time are parts of one continuous whole. I also engage with John Locke’s identity theory but expand on it by emphasizing psychological continuity rather than identical memories. By doing this, I show how my past and present selves are connected, making me fundamentally the same person, even as I grow and change.
